The Evolution of Loo Roll
Warning, this entry consists of extreme geek and nerdiness, about evolution and statistics for the Bog roll I cannot believe I am actually writing about Loo roll but here goes nothing.
Evolution made from Loo Roll
This extremely geeky photo is evolution made from Loo roll. I designed this out of extreme geekiness. This was based on one of my articles I wrote about panic buying for the newspaper. I wanted to talk about this piece specifically because I genuinely thought this was very clever, might be absolute nonsense to you but to help me draw these I had an image of the Natural Selection evolution from chimpanzee to human and I draw a loo roll and turned them from chimpanzees to homosapiens or should I say Bogpanzees to Bogrollsapiens! This is me speaking sh*t but the point is I like the cleverness of this piece.
The fact that the loo roll is all line drawn and simplistic yet you can see what I have created visually despite it being made from bog roll which if you ask me was the cleverest concept to my newspaper I felt. These were drawn because of how I describe humanity when their panic buying from being human (homosapiens) to running wild like an animal (Chimpanzees) like to say we are falling backwards in society and humanity is falling down hill.
This here is the image I used for inspiration for drawing my Bog Roll evolution.
I loved researching this for this part of the newspaper because recently I have become fascinated on how humans came into the world and how the world progressively changes due to new technologies and discovery. we may of assumed cavemen had the intelligence of a fly, but ultimately they were intelligent enough to evolve to what we have become today... its ashame we are falling back to square one because of a global pandemic. Back to my point, I have gotten really interested in discovering and learning the history of human existence and the history behind it.
Mentioning how humans have fallen backwards in humanity is ultimately an excuse to add this concept into the newspaper. I found this search from google images and other links I found about theories of Charles Dawin's Natural Selection really interesting and exciting to read about. I also learnt more about this by listening to Horrible Histories natural selection song.

Info Graphics for loo rolls for the amount of people buy loo roll in each country of how the revenues have risen in%
When I designed my info graphics section of my work I wanted it to be more visually exciting than just a typical pie chart or bar chart, because I don't personally feel it is that interesting to look at, I feel that If I put a pie chart up people who haven't got the best attention span like myself might find that actually the look of adding a pie chart or a bar chart boring and wouldn't bother reading it so to make this slightly more visually appealing or worth looking at I wanted to create this soul out of symbols and imagery having the key being self explanatory and the symbols of the flags being explained by itself, for those who know the flags in different country. it shows visually as well how crazy the world went for Bog roll... the unlikely sacred item of 2020. It's Crazy isn't it when you put it into retrospective and when you look at this info graphics.
(Didn't do Japan, China and South Korea!)
This here is where I found some info graphics from about loo rolls and put it into a more visual aesthetic in the most basic way... I just hope you're as geeky as me and know what each flag is in each country. If not there is always... fun with flags with Sheldon and Amy!
Fun with flags: The Big Bang Theory!
(I understand that is such a nerdy thing to mention... but neediness can't hurt... can it?)
Layout flat design
You'll find this absolutely nuts to begin with but it'll all become clear... you'll find it a bit strange that I have added this grid onto this entry but the reason I have done is because of what I did with the Loo roll evolution, I wanted to show this because I wanted to show you the idea behind my layout design for this double page spread as using the guides helped me position the loo roll evolution characters to best suit the page layout, so the characters are aligned with the text this was an idea that happened by an accident but was once of those accidents ideas where it actually went well, so of course I stuck with it.
You can see that I have added the infographics element to my double page spread on the right hand side, along with the human like loo roll man, on the page too on the Bottom left corner, for the added effect with the. consistency of how the other loo roll characters are divided to level with the text, for the page on the righthand side didn't need text for one I wanted to experiment with negative space and secondly, I felt adding anything else to this page would ruin the visual communication and the point of the page- I wanted this page to be a show don't tell kind of concept.
I felt the only text requited was the infographics text only for titling what the info graphics was about for the obvious reasons. I think this works well visually and is actually my favourite page of the newspaper because of the use of the negative space and I thought it was visually clever, What I liked as well which I didn't address was how the text columns progressively shrunk as each level of evolution grew the text in the columns shrunk. (As nerdy as it sounds, it was something I liked about it and felt the need to express.)
The Final Page, about panic buying, evolution and Infographics! Enjoy!
