Cinematic Layout

Cinematic Layout

This concept began by me trying to draw an image of the cinema where I work on my iPad hand drawn which did work but there were angles that were off and not quite aligned so I used that as a base idea and then I found the image I followed reference to based on images from a magazine about the cinema, that my boss let me borrow and take inspiration from, mainly based on the layout design concept and for the image aesthetic.  So I used that as a guide to help me create imagery and footage to kickstart my newspaper layout designs.

Illustration of the Cinema

First attempt of putting an article together

With this aesthetic I was actually quite happy with this layout this was until, I learnt with the help of Seb. Where I discovered that some of the footage was outside the bleed on the newspaper.

This meant, that it was in need of a clean up. As he also helped me by showing me pointers about the Grid layout and how I can rectify this issue. Which was very helpful because I would have been none the wiser otherwise, So to fix that issue, I had to move the text into columns so it makes the text easier to read and easier to follow, as well as resizing the images too. This was so it would all fit within the purple grid which would mean if I decided to print the newspaper, it would mean it would cut out whatever is outside the purple grid which I didn't realise.

This is how I fixed this issue

This layout is more of a newspaper aesthetic, where text layout is split into columns, the illustration is in the same place but made a couple inches smaller, the tickets aren't overlapping where the bleed is, the blue  poster is smaller and looks neater in the newspaper, this was a big help from Seb, showing me how the blue grid lines work and how the purple grid lines work as well.

Before and After

This is the final cut for this segment of the newspaper

I think this layout looks much better than the way I had my newspaper layout to begin with. it looks much cleaner, easier to follow and is more simplistic, it works in its favour.

Image of our local Cinema in a Magazine

The reason why I am adding this into the entry is because of the way the magazine is laid out, it inspired me with ideas on how I can put my newspaper together and it has helped me see how a double page spread is laid out. My friend let me borrow her magazine so I can see how a double page spread is laid out.

Heres a couple other images of the other pages for the magazine

Although this isn't a traditionally a newspaper layout, it was still good and interesting to read, I like how the ticket for the film the writer bought was featured in the feature and I thought it was a clever I like how there's a big F in Italics to start the article mostly because it draws your attention and I think it works well because it is a different approach and as well as that you also know where to start reading.
