William Sandburg

William Sandburg

William Sandberg was a Dutch typographer, museum curator, and member of the Dutch resistance during World War II. He was a graphic designer, a pioneering museum director at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam also known as a champion of modern art.

Here are some examples of his works below:

This design is very photo montage and looks as if he has screen printed this design and what I liked about this design is you can see newspaper print within the centre of the design and what is interesting is the colours in the background make the writing the focus of the piece and make you wonder what the rest of the page says. I like how the collumns is in the shape of 57 and the fact the written text within that shape is actually upside down. its a clever way to experiment and is something I perhaps could work on for myself.

This piece here is interesting to look at visually, because it's come it's just symbols and it's very simplistically put together and what I like about it is the colours chosen the colours that compensate together that contrasts together, in other words, the ones that would go together when you really don't expect them to but I like the fact that there is two orange pieces diagonally and same with the blue shapes. I like the way this page is laid out, it is very simplistic, dynamic and to the point.

With this design I like the simplicity of this piece, I like the font that was printed, it gives me a Bauhas 93 vibe. This type is very simple and I think it works for the to stand out and for it to be bold, I also like the use of negative space in this piece and generally the layout on this piece works well. It is something I will consider to work on in the future.

I can imagine this design as a front and back cover for a book for the fact this design is simple and the type is very bold, I like the use of negative space as I said above. I like the way the person on the left side of the images is looking glitchy and the texture of the image works well with the block text it looks unique and unusual and makes you want to look at it and think about the design.
