Moving Image

Moving Image

For this piece I am going to talk about one of my motion graphics videos I have done for the campaign.

WARNING: This section of motion graphics is not for the squeamish, it contains some very graphic imagery and video content in this video.

For this video I have used the Stop Motion Animation App called I Motion,  to help me film this footage, I have used sanitary products for the effect, a toilet as a propt and I have used red food colouring for the blood aesthetic. Which I thought was a clever idea to represent the blood for the graphic details.

I wanted to revisit this image as these were the products used in the
video about Period Poverty!

Here is some of the video footage below:

Blood and the toilet
This experiment ent was a trial and error piece just to see what I could create.

Blood on pad experiment
This experiment ent was a trial and error piece just to see what I could create.

Blood on the pad & Writing on the packaging

For this effect I used food colouring for the blood on the pad, I wanted to use food colouring as a trial and error experiment and also because I wanted to take a risk or two whilst doing this animation and take a leap out of my comfort zone again not for the squeamish... but I thought this was quite a clever idea as I didn't ahem fake blood or any other alternatives  I wanted to use this aesthetic for the dramatic, graphic and the realistic effects, to educate men about what women go through with and without a pad kind of thing and for women to show there
isn't any shame etc.

Tampon Tax written with tampons Trial and Effort

I wanted to emphasise this message using tampons by using tampons to write the word tax as we as women want tampon tax to end and this is something worth fighting for.

The most graphic video on the blog
Warning don't watch if you're squeamish or easily offended/disgusted! or if you're around children! (Really... don't)

I enjoyed making this motion graphics animation because it took me experimenting to another level, it enabled me to use other resources around me besides the computer. It has enabled me to be taken out fo my comfort zone as I have never produced controversial work and work that make people cringe and disturbed and this is the effect I wanted as I wanted men to be educated and I wanted women to realise that isn't any shame in periods etc and for tampon taxes to end! I enjoyed taking a step out of my comfort zone taking a risk weather people like this video or not as I have worked in an aesthetic I have never worked with before and I have also used premiere pro to edit the clunks of animation together to create this 10 second film footage. I thought it was a good risk and an interesting experimentation.

I have had a mixture of feedback already for this footage such as the following:

"That's disgusting" ~ Alia, Friend and Peer outside uni.

Which is sort of a reaction I wanted because I felt the disgusting makes people watch sometimes and may draw people's attention in.

"This work is very different to what you have done before and good that you've gone out of your comfort zone"~ Dom, Friend in Uni Y2 Fine Art.

This feedback was good to know and is something I agreed with Dom on as I have never done this kind of work before and was good to take a risk from my usual aesthetics.

"Ewww that's disgusting, I don't think you need to be so graphic your main point you are focusing on is the poverty and about sanitary costing too much"  ~ My Mum

This was a good point and some feedback I will listen to, I do agree with her to an extent but I do think the fact she didn't like the video did make sense and you wasn't necessarily meant to like the video, I wanted a but of a controversial video and wanted to take a risk outside my comfort blanket.

"I think the text comes in too fast and it's hard to follow, try slowing down the text" ~ Anne, My Tutor.

"I think you should add something at the end of the video, maybe something written or a poster design" Anne, My Tutor.

I listened to this feedback during my tutorial on Friday the 30th October 2020 and I made these improvements- unfortunately the video goes just slightly over 10 seconds but I made some of the improvements suggested by my tutor as I think she made some good points technically on how I could improve my work.

After making some alterations, here is the final outcome for the moving graphics video below:

Again do not watch if you're squeamish or eating. Thank-you!!!
