Period Poverty

On Thursday 19th November was the day for us to start working on the Campaign part of this project and we were supposed to pitch the idea to everyone in the studio In our social bubbles... I didn't have a solid idea at the time, but Anne asked if anyone wanted to present their ideas to everyone, all of the class went death doors silent and I somehow managed to push myself and I said "I don't have a solid idea,  but I have an idea" so I spoke my subject and I spoke about Period Poverty.

I was split and torn to pieces between Mental Health and Period Poverty, which are both two strong projects and have a strong message I can campaign about, and I chose to focus more on Period Poverty, for the reasons of Mental health being a subject choice I can see being very common and I didn't want to follow the crowd and the heard of sheep... as much as I found this subject relatable (like the psychology behind mental health) and recently become much more curious as to how people's brains work and function.  But instead I wanted to turn another path and preach at a subject that isn't often spoken about generally and isn't really spoke about outside the bathroom cubicles across the world and it is an important thing I felt the need to address because of that. I want to be able to fight to Abolish Tampon Tax and for all sanitary products to be free in all toilets particularly in workplaces and schools and in Sex clinics as I say condoms are free in a sex clinic why isn't mensural products?

Despite not having a mind map at the time to talk my campaign subject with I made a couple of mind-maps  up when I finished the Studio Day, here it is below, with my notes to show what period poverty means to me along with facts and statistics.

Notes and More Statistics

This here is the glory I wish I had when I was pitching my campaign idea to everyone in the studio, but im glad I created something to guide me now.

Before I wrote my campaign I looked at different things I need to include in a campaign on how to make a successful campaign to which I found on here; https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=safari&channel=mac_bm&sxsrf=ALeKk01lp2AClJuFZw8Uw7oU7UJ7AD3VKg%3A1606537684586&source=hp&ei=1NHBX_uKIa6XlwSb_biADw&q=what+to+achieve+in+a+campaign&oq=&gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQARgBMgcIIxDqAhAnMgcIIxDqAhAnMgcILhDqAhAnMgcIIxDqAhAnMgcIIxDqAhAnMgcIIxDqAhAnMgcIIxDqAhAnMgcIIxDqAhAnMgcIIxDqAhAnMgcIIxDqAhAnOgQIIxAnOggILhDJAxCRAjoFCC4QkQI6CggAELEDEIMBEEM6BAgAEEM6DgguELEDEIMBEMcBEKMCOggIABCxAxCDAVCmCliyEGCOHWgCcAB4AIABU4gBU5IBATGYAQCgAQGqAQdnd3Mtd2l6sAEK&sclient=psy-ab

Which are the following points:
What to include in a campaign
What should be included in a campaign?
Across each of these six stages, a campaign plan typically includes defining:
  • Relevant customer profiles or personas to target.
  • The value proposition of the product or service.
  • The primary or hero offer which is the call to action
  • The promotional channels for raising awareness and encouraging action.
I wanted to look at these to help me plan my train of thought so I can truly understand what I want to try and achieve to help me show what my points are, what I can do to make a difference and how I can raise an awareness about a relevant subject matter.

Sanitary Products
Seeing as this project will be covering these products, I figured I'd put them on the brainstorm page too, so I can always find inspiration for ideas and for my thought processes.

Feedback for my idea from Tutors and Peers

One thing I didn't think about at the time I spoke to the class as I didn't have a plan or anything put together so I spoke verbally and what I didn't think about were the following subject bases:

What I was hoping to achieve?

What I want people to do about this matter?

What I could do with this campaign?

What the target audience was?

Some of these points were discussed in the studio session on the 19th November 2020 with help and guidance from my tutors and some of my peers also.
I was suggested by Anne to watch the Ted Talks video by the man who invented a machine that makes pads for women in India who have no sanitary products of any kind which was an interesting watch Anne suggests that I could perhaps promote his product and said I have a very picked a very good project brief which I was surprised about as I didn't think anyone would like this idea in any shape or form, it cringed me thinking about it and talking about it. I have also had suggestions of maybe making E cards like what you can get in Sex Clinics and to say well condoms are free... why aren't pads and tampons etc. I have had suggestions on how I can word play and graphically experiment for poster design aspects and to watch some adverts which were quite heavy loading to help me with creating the motion graphic element to this project.
