Logo Design Ideas and Experiments

Newspaper Logo Names and Design Ideas

This entry is about trial and error and experimentation where I was experimenting different typographic fonts and typefaces for logo design ideas on Illustrator for my Newspaper Brand name. Here is what I experimented with below.

Logo Design Ideas

Here is another experimental piece I created

I created this experimental aesthetic via Adobe Spark, it is a programme I am coming to like, for this look I wanted to try out a vintage look which I actually think works really well as I originally wanted my newspaper to have a slight vintage touch to it as well. I wanted to experiment with the retro looking stencil typeface (As it was the most retro looking typeface on Spark for now) and with the colour scheme I wanted to try and make them vintage colours as if they look a little bit tea stained because I wanted my newspaper to have a tea stained aesthetic to give it the vintage look.

Studio Day 1

Thursday 29th October 2020

Studio Day 1

Newspaper Activity

For our first studio day, we had the task of bringing in the following objects:

  • Newspaper
  • Laptop
  • Paint Brushes
  • Scissors
  • Our Brains
  • Something to write with
The reason for bringing in the Newspaper was because our tutor, Anne wanted us to understand how typical format of a newspaper works, as in how newspapers have their columns divided where we really begin to understand the rule of sticking to the grid and breaking the grid also. This was an interesting thing to learn because you was able to notice this quicker as to do this we had to paint anywhere we saw an illustration and anywhere we saw text I feel the way I did this task wasn't completely right as lets just sat I coloured in the each part.

But here it is below:

The Newspaper Activity

The text below says this activity was put together for a first studio day of year two where we had to learn about the typical newspaper layout how the text would be aligned having the 5 to 6 columns and on how to divide the text 3 to 4 illustrations above some of the text with having the headline texting centralised and then bigger point sizes I enjoyed learning about this basics on newspapers design and on the basic formats this will help me for when I create my newspaper.

Brainstorm: Newspapers

Brainstorms: Design ideas

With this entry consist of my Design ideas for my Newspaper, deciphering what is going on my newspaper and generally taking notes and mostly visualising my ideas.

Heres my Brainstorms below...

Brainstorm 1
This brainstorm is very basic but to the point summing up my ideas, thought process and techinques for  my project ideas, this is where the magic begins, where the birth of the ideas commence.  Some of these ideas occurred to me after creating my brainstorms on the previous blog entry and from browsing through a newspaper and my Summer project, from my digital portfolio. some of these ideas from the brainstorm occurred from the top of my head also, which I had to write down so I can always reflect back and recap. For me as I say brainstorms I feel is the roots to the stem of the project, you have to maintain the roots before you get to the stem, so for me brainstorming is an importance to me as it shows my progression and improvement and showing how I get from A-B.

Brainstorm 2
This brain storm was slightly different still deciphering on newspaper ideas based on the choice of the name of the newspaper, the format of the newspaper and other basic design ideas and concepts for the newspaper, this brainstorm being more based on the layout of the newspaper as apposed to what is going on the newspaper.

Brainstorm 3
With this brainstorm, it is more visually exciting to look at where I jotted down some of the basic ideas for what I'd like to include in my newspaper but displayed in a unique way. but it is basically the same thing as what I have written on the other two brainstorms but with more illustration and more visually exciting.
Flat Plan for Newspaper Design

This brainstorm here is a scale plan for my Newspaper Design at the beginning days, this can all change but this is the kind of format I'd like it to have- this plan is very basic and strategically to the point and conveyed in a simplistic aesthetic. You could say the aesthetic of this piece is very much like how I create my cartoon like storyboards, which strangely creating this format of my visualised hope for my Newspaper is the kind of aesthetic I'd like create the comic strip parts of this newspaper.

Something I forgot to write on this brainstorm is the idea me and a friend of mine outside the uni (Thanks for the idea Clare!) but the idea being tea staining an A3 sheet and take a photograph of that and insert that for the background on the newspaper and to consider to use the typical Black letter or old English font for the text to correlate to the nostalgic older looking newspaper along with having the more modernised aesthetic like mixing the old with the new almost saying that was the new norm and the old norm.
Along with that idea of the computer scroll up and down to mark the pages giving it the more contemporary aesthetic at the same time with the search bar etc almost like a google search page as I would like this newspaper to have digital aspects that give it the contemporary aesthetic so it would appeal to the future generation as well as the use of old fashioned vintage idea also.

Brainstorms: COVID 19

Brian Storms for Social Cultural Context

For those who know and have read some of my other blogs,  For me a brainstorm is a big component for a project, you could say a brainstorm is like the bark of the treetops, in other words the brain storms lead to success. I have a strong value and importance for a brainstorm. No matter what I am doing I like to create a brainstorm so I can see how ideas have sprouted and you can see work in. a portfolio evolve from just a doodle or chunks of writing on a spider diagram to a master piece.I love brain storms because they visually represent your thoughts, ideas, feelings and it is a good guide to follow when I am planning ideas for a project.   With this project you'll expect alot of brain storms, to show my visuals and where my ideas have come from. Some of which my ideas have also come from this year's summer project that I did earlier in the year.

Brain Storm 1

With this brain storm I went for the neat and illistrative approach, I wanted to experiment a bit further to see how I can create visually with type and illustrations and to see what ideas sink into my head when I am planning.

Brain Storm 2

With this brain storm it is very simple but I like the type! The idea for this brain storm is a legible piece so you can see what I am thinking visually and to see what words pop into my head when a one worded subject is put into my head which I thought was interesting regardless.

What really interests me is the differences of the first and the second brainstorm to each other, because although it is regarding the same subject matter It is interesting seeing my ideas and visual elements written down in different ways you could almost say they were paraphrased but  they wasn't as such I like how the first brain storm have illustrations  and text because it makes my ideas look exciting and easier to visualise but it does look too neat and tidy for my usual brain storms- I usually create brainstorms like the second brainstorm because I can visually see the words floating around the big heading and what I love about that one is how the title is colourful and easier to read and the words circulating them is in black ink- its very simplistic and I can really visualise and picture this subject matter and create stories in my head by looking at that brainstorm.

A Doodle visualised brainstorm

With this brain storm it is just a doodle version, I was experimenting visually using illustrations, just to create something unique and sometimes doodling can be good for brainstorming also. It makes me want to doodle more for visualising ideas further.

Brain Storm 3

With this brain storm I gave myself a challenge to write words associated to COVID 19 and about how it has effected me with my eyes closed so I couldn't see what I was writing. With this challenge I wanted to test my mind and co-ordination this idea occurred to me from days in Vis-com, back in Foundation days, where I remember writing ideas down with my eyes shut and it enabled me to think much more than say the other brainstorms above this one as not only am I thinking of words to do with the virus but I am also consciously thinking of what I am doing more, about what I am writing, more ideas and this way I am remembering my thought process faster as it is making me think about it more and making my brain concentrate because where I can't see what I am doing it is challenging myself for me to think about what I am writing down and guessing where I have written already on the page and where I haven't written on the page.  I liked this idea and might do this type of brainstorm again for the Campaign component of this project depending on my topic theme. That was an interesting approach for making a brainstorm, although it isn't the most legible it made me think about something and seeing the bigger picture also. I quite like the messiness to this anyway, because COVID 19 is a very messy disease and has left the world in a massive sh*t storm so the messiness does work for this subject matter.

Timeplan

Time Plan

This here is a time plan for the days I predicted the days I intend on completing each task this would also help me with my planning and completing my work so I can meet the deadline for this project and to keep me up to date with each task that meets the project brief in hope that I can complete the project to my best ability.

Timeplan

Here's the start to my Time Plan.

(Hopefully I can get each task done on time.)

Brief: Social Cultural Context

Social Cultural Context

This brief ids a continuation from our summer project we did back in the summer of 2020 to kickstart Year 2 Graphic Design.

Page 1

Page 2

Page 3

For this brief we were given, Called Social Context where we have 3 components, which is to basically make a NewsPaper Aimed for the target audience for the future Generation Based on COVID 19 and the pandemic as if we are delivering it to the future generation after us, like our grandparents explain stories of WW1 and WW2 to us. Along with making a campaign based on 5 subject matters:
·      Mental Health
·      Poverty
·      Black Lives Matter
·      Climate
·      Equality

For the third and final component for this unit was to write an essay, consisting of 1500 words about three different options.

Here's my notes about the brief below:

My Notes from the brief!

Evaluation

Project Evaluation for Social Cultural Context For this entry I will be writing an evaluation for the project Socail Cultural Context, which...
